Product overview

XenMobile is enterprise mobility management software developed by Citrix. The product allows businesses to manage employee mobile devices and mobile applications. The software's aim is to increase productivity by allowing employees to securely work on both enterprise-owned and personal mobile devices and apps.

A suite of enterprise applications come with the software called the Worx mobile application suite. It comprises email client WorxMail, that can be used to manage employee email, contacts and calendar, a browser called WorxWeb, WorxDesktop, which allows access to remote files and applications, WorxNotes, an app for creating documents for notes, and WorxEdit for editing documents. In May 2015, the company introduced time management tool WorxTasks to the app suite.

Users can download additional applications through WorxStore. The applications available to users are configured by IT staff through WorxHome.

History

The technology that would become XenMobile was created by MDM developer Zenprise.

In January 2013, Citrix acquired Zenprise. Citrix merged the existing MDM functionality of Zenprise with its own Citrix Cloud Gateway MAM software to create XenMobile. In June 2013, Citrix launched the initial version of XenMobile.

Features

XenMobile allows Windows applications to run on the majority of mobile devices, including IOS and Android through XenApp.

XenMobile is a comprehensive solution for managing and protecting mobile devices, apps and data, and giving users the freedom to experience work and life their way. Its features include:
o Mobile device management (MDM) for configuring, securing, provisioning and supporting mobile devices
o Mobile app management (MAM) for complete management, security and control over native mobile apps and their associated data
o Sandboxed apps including email, browser, le sharing and editing, note taking, task management, and collaboration
o Multi-factor single sign-on (SSO)
o Shared devices - i.e. the ability to share apps and data among multiple users with MDM and MAM control

XenMobile MDM provides role-based management, configuration and security of corporate- and user-owned devices. IT can enroll and manage devices; blacklist or whitelist apps; detect devices that are jail broken or out of compliance and block their ActiveSync email access; and perform a full or selective wipe of a device that is lost, stolen or out of compliance.

XenMobile MAM is powered by MDX technologies, which enable complete management, security and control over native mobile apps and their associated data. With MDX, corporate apps and data reside in a container, separated from personal apps and data, on the user's mobile device. This containerization allows IT to secure any Worx-enabled application, such as custom developed, third-party or BYO mobile apps, with comprehensive policy-based controls, including mobile DLP and the ability to remote lock, wipe and encrypt apps and data. The Worx App SDK with MDX allows IT to:

  • Separate business and personal apps and data in a mobile container where they can be secured with encryption and other mobile DLP technologies and can be remotely locked and wiped by IT.
  • Provide seamless integration between Worx-enabled apps while controlling all communication policies, such as ensuring that data only is accessible by Worx-enabled apps.
  • Provide granular, policy-based controls and management for all HTML5 and native mobile apps, including an application-speci c micro-VPN for accessing an organization's internal network. A micro-VPN avoids the need for a device-wide VPN that can compromise security.

Citrix innovates in its client-side technology, specifically in the quality and breadth of its Secure app (Worx app) suite and its ShareFile client.
