Sir Kurt George Matthew Mayer Alberti , (born September 27, 1937) is a British physician. His first major interest was diabetes mellitus, in which he has published numerous research papers and presented on many national and international committees. In the 1970s Alberti published recommendations for the management of diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious metabolic emergency that affects people suffering from severe insulin deficiency. This 'Albertiian regime' rationalizes the use of insulin and fluid therapy in these conditions, for the undoubted benefit of many patients.
Alberti served as National Clinical Director for Emergency Access from September 2002 to March 2009. He has been Professor and Dean of Medicine at Newcastle University in Tyne and President of the Royal College of Physicians.
Alberti encouraged controversial changes to emergency care in the UK, which caused some hospitals to lose their status as emergency care centers.
