The Madison Museum of Bathroom Tissue was founded in 1992, and closed in 2000. The museum was founded by Carol Kolb in Madison, Wisconsin, in a two-story block three blocks from the Wisconsin State Capitol.
At its peak, the permanent MMBT collection contains about 3,000 rolls of toilet paper. The origins of toilet paper range from bathrooms of other museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, to American tourist destinations such as Wall Drug and Graceland. The museum also has European, African, Australian, Canadian and Mexican toilet paper and a collection of toilet paper from bars and restaurants located in Madison. Wing Manufacturer contains a collection of retail samples donated by toilet paper producers, many with headquarters in Fox River Valley paper producing areas in Wisconsin.
The museum closed its doors in December 2000 when the remaining living staff vacated the address to move from Madison. The collection is currently in Elgin, Illinois, stored in storage by new owners Caleb and Tracy Hanson. In 2008 the building where the museum was destroyed.
