Definition

Minimum age

Teenagers get legal rights and privileges vary. Generally, those reaching the age of 18 are legally considered to have reached the age of majority, but persons under that age may gain adult rights through legal emancipation. The legal working age in Western countries is usually between 14 and 16, depending on the hours and types of work. This may differ from the age of leaving the minimum school (where a person is legally allowed to leave compulsory education) and the age of consent for sexual activity varies greatly between jurisdictions, ranging from 13 to 18 years.

Minimum age for "age and appropriate discretion" varies according to jurisdiction.

Fourteen years seems to be the absolute minimum. Under "general law, a woman of 14 years of age is at the age of legal discretion, and may choose a guardian." Thus, Minnesota states 14 is old enough to be considered age-appropriate and wisdom. Under the laws of several states, including New York, a 14-year-old child can be married with the permission of the court and guardian, and marriage for those younger than it does not apply. New York court official video transcript states:

Appropriate age words and wisdom usually mean asking someone to serve in one of the locations over the age of 14, and will likely give a letter to the person you want to be served.

In California, "a smart and 16 year old adult" is "appropriate age and discretion."

Services process

Appropriate age and wisdom are also an alternative method of service process. Usually it means the child of the defendant, even if the child only visits the home of his parents, can receive the service process.

However, the service at the receptionist at the former residence of the defendant is not enough for personal jurisdiction.

Jurisdictions that recognize appropriate age and eligibility for process services

In the United States, this form of process is recognized by Arizona, California, Louisiana, and Michigan. It is also recognized in Minnesota, New York, and North Carolina. The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 4 (e) (2) (B), allows "to provide copies of individual calls or grievances to individuals or by leaving copies of them in individual residential homes or residential quarters with some appropriate age persons and later wisdom stay in it.... "

The appropriate age and process service policies are recognized by Philippine law.
