The form is a document with a space (also called fields or placeholder ) to write or select, for a set of documents with similar content. The documents usually have the same printed section, except, perhaps, for the serial number.

Forms, when completed, may be statements, requests, orders, etc.; check can be form. There is also a form for taxes; filling one in is an obligation to determine how much tax to be paid, and/or the form is a request for a refund. See also Tax returns.

The form can be filled in duplicate (or triple , meaning three times) when the information gathered on the form needs to be distributed to several departments within an organization. This can be done using carbon paper.

Forms have existed for a considerable time, with legal historians having discovered legal forms printed from the early nineteenth century that greatly simplify the task of preparing complaints and other defense pleasures. It is believed that its form was conceived by mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage. In some jurisdictions, such as California, many common types of legal applications must be submitted to official government forms.

Benefits

The advantages of the form include the following:

  • Someone has to write less (when printing is almost universally done in some automated way)
  • Someone notified or reminded what information should be provided
  • There is uniformity, for ease of processing
  • Information is collected in writing and can be reviewed later (the form may also include a signature field to enable someone to be responsible for the accuracy of the information provided).
  • Simpler tasks, such as collecting or distributing data, can be separated in workflows from more skilled processes, such as making decisions. Publishing and processing of forms may be performed by less skilled staff, or by computers. Unskilled tasks are either issuing or filling out forms that are appropriate for the situation, and then passing them on to the next step in the workflow. This can reduce costs and increase the volume of work that can be handled.

The form on the computer makes it possible to type comfortably in the variable part (input data).


Form structure

The blank form is like a regular document, with some sections outlined by spaces. Empty forms are generally not copyrighted in the US.

Fixed order and content

Parts of the document never change. Usually a frame with title and textual instruction.

Placeholder

A box or space where users can type to fill out a form.
