Paper crafts is a collection of art forms that use paper or cards as the main artistic medium for the manufacture of three-dimensional objects. It is the most widely used material in arts and crafts. It is suitable for a variety of techniques, such as folded, cut, glued, shaped, stitched, or coated. Paper making by hand is also an important paper craft. Paintings and calligraphy although they are generally applied as decorations are usually considered as separate art or craft.
Paper craft is well known in most people who use paper, with certain types of crafts that are specifically linked to a particular country or culture.
In addition to the aesthetic value of paper crafts, various forms of paper crafts are used in children's education. Paper is a relatively inexpensive medium, easy to obtain, and easier to use than more complex media typically used in the creation of three-dimensional works, such as ceramics, wood and metal. It's also better to use compared to paint, dye, and other coloring materials. Paper crafts can also be used in therapeutic settings, providing children with creative outlets that are safe and uncomplicated to express feelings.

The word "paper" is derived from papyrus, the name of an ancient material made from reeds beaten in Egypt as far back as the third millennium BC. Indeed, the earliest known example of "paper folding" is an ancient Egyptian map, drawn on papyrus and folded into a rectangular shape like a modern road map. However, it does not appear that complicated paper folding as an art form becomes possible until the introduction of pulp based papers.
The first Japanese origami dates from the 6th century AD In most parts of the West, the term origami is used synonymously with paper folding, although the term refers only to the art of paper folding in Japan. Other forms of paper folds include Zhezhi (Chinese folding paper), Jong-i.e.-jeop-gi, from Korea, and Western folding paper, such as paper boats and traditional paper planes.

Cut paper
Papel picado, as done in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America, is done by using chisels to cut 50 to one hundred pieces at a time, while Chinese pieces of paper use knives or scissors up to 8 sheets. Wycinanki and other European forms are usually done on one sheet. In one of these traditions, the sheet of paper is folded before it is cut to achieve a symmetrical design.
Paper pulp painting
Images built using colored pulp are a form of paper art that began in the 20th century. Chuck Close, Lynn Sures is a contemporary artist who developed this medium.
