A term paper is a research paper written by students during academic terms, accounting for most of the class. The online version of Merriam-Webster defines it as "a great writing assignment at a representative school or college of student achievement over an extended period of time". Term paper is generally intended to describe an event, a concept, or debate a subject. This is the original work written about discussing the topic in detail, usually a few pages are typed long, and often because at the end of the semester.

There is a lot of overlap between terms: research papers and papers . A paper term originally is a written assignment (usually a research-based paper) that matures at the end of the term - either semester or quarter depending on which unit the school uses. However, not all papers involve academic research, and not all research papers are papers.

Histori

The date paper dates back to the early nineteenth century when prints could be reproduced of cheap and written text of all types (reports, memoranda, specifications, and scientific articles) can be easily produced and disseminated. Moulton and Holmes (2003) wrote that during the years 1870-1900 "American education changed as writing into a method of discourse and study of learning characteristics."

Russell (1991) writes that in the 1910s, "research papers began to harden into familiar forms" adding that plagiarism and the sale of research papers are both a problem all along.

Plagiarism in the computer age

At this time, the entire industry has sprung up to provide plagiarism, pre-written or special written papers for students of varying degrees of education. There are many websites that sell papers of all levels of quality and writing ability, but the submission of a purchased paper will be considered a serious breach of student academic integrity by a reputable academic institution. Also, plagiarism can be unwittingly done by students. Although plagiarism can be done unconsciously, there are several steps that can be taken to avoid plagiarism. When quoting another author's work, place quotes around the word or phrase you took from the work, and use footnotes, endnotes, or online citations to give credit to the original source. Just changing a few words is not the same as summarizing the truth, and the use of slightly modified parts is still considered plagiarism unless the quotation gives credit to the source.
