Comb binding (sometimes referred to as "cerlox or surelox binding") is one of many ways to tie pages together into a book. This method uses round plastic spikes with 19 rings (for US Letter sizes) or 21 rings (for A4 size) and puncture holes that create rectangular holes. Comb binding is sometimes referred to as a plastic comb binding or spiral comb binding.

Binding process
To bind documents, users first press a hole in the paper with a special hole patch. The pages should be hit several times with most of these machines. If the hard cover is desired, they must be perforated as well. In many applications, paper drilling machines can be used.
Then the user selects the size of the spine that will match the document. Standard size is 4.8 mm ( 3 / 16 on) (for 16 sheets of 20 # paper) up to 51 mm (2 inches)) (for 425 sheets). The length of the spine is generally 280 mm (11 inches) to match the length of letter-sized paper.
The ring on the spine opens and is inserted into a hole in the yard, then rests on the body of the spine, resulting in a closure that can be opened again to make changes to the book.

Comparison with other binding
With this bond, the book is flat but can not be opened 360 degrees. For a book that can be opened in such a way that the cover touches, a spine that has no obstructive body, such as a binding coil, is a better choice.
